From the underground arteries of Singapore to the forefront of environmental innovation, Shaik Nifael Bin Shaik Nazeemuddin is redefining what modern leadership looks like. As Managing Director of Jetters Incz. Pte. Ltd., founded in 2015, has transformed a stigmatized industry into a benchmark of excellence and purpose. Rooted in resilience and driven by vision, his journey is anything but conventional. This is the story of a leader building impact from the ground up—literally.
Resilience: A Leader Forged Beyond Convention
Shaik Nifael Bin Shaik Nazeemuddin’s story does not begin in corporate boardrooms or privileged corridors of opportunity. It begins in the Teochew heartland of Hougang, Singapore — a place where contrasts defined his early life. On the surface, he embodied excellence: scoring 230 on his PSLE, serving as Assistant Head Prefect, excelling as a national sprinter with back-to-back relay gold wins, and holding the rank of Staff Sergeant and PTI in the NPCC. His early years were equally marked by achievements in communication — he was hand-picked for Speech and Drama in Primary 1, won national storytelling competitions, and earned recognition as a two-time Best Speaker at national debate competitions.
Yet beneath these accolades was a far more complex reality. As a minority student of Indian descent in a predominantly Chinese environment, he faced severe bullying — targeted for his race, his name, and his height. Rather than retreat, he transformed adversity into fuel, learning Mandarin not merely to integrate but to distinguish himself in spaces where he was often marginalized.
Even then, he was never one to conform quietly. While the system rewarded silence, he questioned relentlessly. “Keep quiet, don’t ask questions, and you will go far” was advice he could never accept.
“By 15, I found myself mixing with some of Singapore’s most dangerous street names. I was living in two completely different worlds: smoking and clubbing at night, then running a relay for the school the next morning. Academically, this rebellion had a cost. I dropped out of Millennia Institute at the age of 18. I walked away because I couldn’t force myself down a path I didn’t believe in. Instead, I started cleaning grease traps and longkangs for $23 a day. That $23-a-day work didn’t hold me back — it built me. At 26, armed with an unwavering belief in my capabilities, I founded Jetters Incz. Resilience is the refusal to let my background, my appearance, or societal expectations define my destiny,” reflects Nifael.
Lessons from the Unlikeliest Mentors
Nifael’s leadership philosophy was not shaped solely in classrooms or corporate environments, but in places few would expect. During his most turbulent teenage years, the old Farrer Park boxing gym became an unlikely sanctuary. There, he encountered individuals who existed on the fringes of society — men who, despite their own struggles, recognized his potential.
They offered guidance in their own way, giving him a rare duality: the ability to navigate both the “longkang” and the boardroom. It was a gift that would later define his leadership — grounded, adaptable, and deeply empathetic.
At home, his father played an equally transformative role. At 18, he was pushed into manual labor, stripping away entitlement and instilling the dignity of hard work. This experience became the cornerstone of his leadership ethos. He does not lead from abstraction, but from lived experience — understanding the invisible struggles of workers because he has lived them himself. This is why his leadership is rooted in inclusion.
This perspective translates directly into how he builds teams — actively hiring from marginalized communities, recognizing that talent often exists beyond conventional credentials.
From Necessity to Vision: Entering the Industry
His entry into the drainage and waste management industry was not driven by ambition, but by necessity. Walking away from formal education meant stepping into the workforce under his father’s insistence.
The turning point came in those early days of physically demanding, stigmatized work. What others overlooked, he observed deeply. He saw the expertise of seasoned workers — individuals who could solve complex drainage problems better than many civil engineers could. He saw an industry essential to public health and urban functionality, yet undervalued and invisible.
That realization ignited a vision — not just to remain in the industry, but to transform it. To modernize it. To elevate the dignity of those who kept cities functioning from beneath the surface.
The Education That No Classroom Could Offer
While his early academic journey was marked by achievement and later by rebellion, Nifael’s true education came from the ground up. From being a $23-a-day technician, he developed a granular understanding of waste management operations — mastering the technical intricacies of high-pressure water jetting and drainage maintenance systems.
“When I transitioned into management, I had to learn how to handle fleet operations, manpower planning, and client negotiations. Because I had done the physical labor, I earned the respect of my crew — I knew exactly what I was asking of them. This ground-level expertise allowed me to scale Jetters Incz. rapidly. When I make strategic decisions today, they are informed by years of practical, hands-on experience,” shares Nifael.
Building Jetters Incz.: A Vision in Motion
When Nifael founded Jetters Incz. in August 2015, his vision was clear yet ambitious — to revolutionize the drainage industry through service excellence and a professional image. At just 26, he sought to prove that a company in this stigmatized sector could operate with the same level of professionalism, reliability, and brand integrity as any high-end corporate firm. The company generated S$600,000 in revenue in its very first year.
Over time, this vision expanded. While service excellence remains central — embodied in the company’s motto, “Perfection; It’s the ONLY solution” — the business has evolved to embrace technological innovation, social impact, and sustainability.
Today, his vision encompasses transforming Jetters Incz. into a technology-driven company utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) for smarter, predictive waste management, and leading sustainable initiatives like food-waste valorization to contribute to a circular economy.
Navigating Challenges with Agility and Foresight
The early years of building Jetters Incz. were incredibly challenging.
First, as a young father juggling cash-flow pressures, Nifael balanced financial pressures with the immense responsibility of building a business from scratch alongside his wife, Dania.
Second, the industry itself posed structural challenges — labor shortages, difficulties in hiring for physically demanding roles, and bureaucratic hurdles such as delayed foreign worker permits. Additionally, the sector’s ambiguous classification often limited access to government grants.
Yet, what set Nifael apart was his strategic clarity. Rather than chasing short-term gains, he focused on long-term client relationships and operational agility.
This approach proved critical during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anticipating disruptions, he proactively moved foreign workers into company-provided accommodations before lockdowns were enforced. This decision allowed Jetters Incz. to continue operations seamlessly while competitors struggled — turning a global crisis into a moment of accelerated growth.
Redefining Industry Standards Through Depth and Commitment
“What truly differentiates Jetters Incz. is its uncompromising commitment to solving the root cause of a problem, rather than offering superficial fixes. In the drainage and waste management industry, many companies opt for the fastest, easiest solution. However, we take the harder route. For our F&B clients, this sometimes means spending up to 12 hours opening up piping to properly analyze and diagnose complex blockages. We maintain 24/7 emergency availability, and my team and I are always ready to respond around the clock,” says Nifael.
Early adoption of digitalization has also positioned Jetters Incz. ahead of its peers, combining traditional expertise with modern operational efficiency.
Today, the company has earned the trust of over 500 major brands, including Starbucks, Sushi Express, Luckin Coffee, and TWG Tea. Its certifications — bizSAFE Level Star and ISO 45001 — reflect a deep commitment to safety and operational excellence. This combination of technical depth, digital readiness, and genuine client partnership is what sets them apart.
The Next Chapter: Technology, Sustainability, and Scale
The next chapter for Jetters Incz. is highly focused on technology and regional expansion. The company is currently exploring partnerships to integrate the Internet of Things (IoT) into its drainage and waste management systems — a move that will transition operations from a reactive service model to a predictive, technology-driven model. Monitoring infrastructure in real time will allow issues to be prevented before they occur, fundamentally redefining its value proposition from a service provider to a technology partner.
Additionally, the company is developing sustainable initiatives, specifically food-waste valorization, to actively contribute to the circular economy. Geographically, the company is laying the groundwork to expand its operations across Southeast Asia within the next five years. These initiatives collectively represent the ambition to grow from a leading Singaporean SME into a regional environmental technology enterprise.
Innovation as a Way of Thinking
For Nifael, innovation is not confined to technology — it is a mindset rooted in continuous improvement. It is about enhancing efficiency, safety, and client satisfaction by refining processes and empowering people on the ground to identify and solve challenges.
The company captured significant market share and earned recognition as one of Singapore’s fastest-growing companies — maintaining its position for three consecutive years on both the Financial Times Asia-Pacific and The Straits Times lists.
Leadership Defined: Empathetic, Grounded, Uncompromising
“As Managing Director and CEO of Jetters Incz., my core responsibilities encompass setting the strategic vision for the company, driving business development, ensuring operational excellence, and fostering a corporate culture rooted in inclusivity and resilience. I am deeply involved in client relations and remain personally accessible to my team and our partners around the clock. I also serve as the public face of the company, advocating for the dignity of the environmental services industry and championing inclusive hiring practices,” says Nifael.
“I would distill my leadership style into three words: Empathetic, Grounded, and Uncompromising. I lead from the front, having done the heavy lifting myself. My leadership identity is defined by the ability to survive in the longkang and sit at the table with policymakers, holding my place in both,” he adds.
Grounded in Purpose: Life Beyond Business
In the midst of leading a 24/7 operation, safeguarding work-life balance is a continuous and conscious effort. For Nifael, family remains the ultimate anchor. Building the company alongside his wife, Dania — who also serves as Chief Commercial Officer — intertwines personal and professional purpose. Raising their three children provides clarity and a constant perspective that reminds him daily of what he is truly building towards.
Beyond business, his connection to the community plays a vital role. Through sponsoring and mentoring Bishan Barx FC, a local football club that won the 2025 Singapore Football League 2 title and earned promotion to Division 1, he finds both joy and grounding.
For him, giving back — particularly in advocating for the dignity of marginalized workers — is not a drain on energy, but its greatest source.
A Vision for the Future: Growth with Purpose
Looking ahead, Jetters Incz. is set to evolve into a technology-enabled environmental services firm. The integration of IoT-driven predictive maintenance and expansion into Southeast Asian markets will define its strategic direction over the next two years.
“We will also deepen our sustainability commitments, positioning ourselves as a leader in the circular economy within the environmental services sector,” assures Nifael.
“My personal aspirations intersect perfectly with this corporate vision through our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals. As we scale, I have set a mandate that 50% of our new hires must come from disadvantaged or marginalized backgrounds. My personal aspiration is to prove that a highly profitable, fast-growing company can also be a powerful vehicle for social mobility. I want Jetters Incz. to be the platform that gives others the chance that my early mentors gave me — the chance to prove that your background does not define your ceiling,” he adds.
A Message to the Next Generation
To the next generation of leaders, his message is both personal and powerful:
“If you are the kind of person who needs to understand the ‘why’ before you give your ‘yes’ — that is not a flaw. That is a superpower. The only question is whether you will let it destroy you or build something with it. Do not let anyone judge your destiny based on your background, your name, or your appearance. They may try, but they can never define your destiny unless you let them.”
He urges future leaders to embrace their individuality, reject limiting narratives, and lead with empathy and purpose. True success, he believes, lies not just in proving others wrong, but in proving to oneself that one was always enough.
“Champions are not made in comfort zones; they are forged in fire.”
Final Reflection: Building Impact Above and Below Ground
