Verdane has strengthened its investor relations leadership in Europe with the appointment of Marina Jovanovic Flynn as principal and head of investor relations for the region. The newly created role comes at an important time for the European private equity firm as it works to raise up to €1.8 billion for its latest Edda IV fund.
Verdane Expands European Investor Relations Leadership
European private equity firm Verdane has appointed Marina Jovanovic Flynn to lead its investor relations activities across Europe, creating a dedicated senior position focused on strengthening relationships with existing and prospective institutional investors.
According to Real Deals, Flynn joins Verdane as a principal in the newly established role and will report directly to Carl Nauckhoff, partner and chief commercial officer. Verdane also confirmed the appointment, describing Flynn as an experienced addition who will add further depth to its European investor relations capabilities.
The appointment is particularly significant because it coincides with Verdane’s fundraising efforts for Edda IV, its latest fund targeting the European lower mid-market. The fund has a target of €1.6 billion and a hard cap of €1.8 billion, according to investment materials reviewed by the Connecticut Office of the State Treasurer.
Marina Jovanovic Flynn Brings Extensive Fundraising Experience
Flynn brings substantial experience in private equity fundraising and investor relations to her new position.
Before joining Verdane, she spent several years at L Catterton, where she was part of the investor relations team and served as its Head of Europe. In a 2020 career update, Flynn said she was joining L Catterton after six years at Rede Partners, where she had been involved in the growth of the fundraising advisory firm and worked with clients and investors across the private markets industry.
Her experience spans investor engagement, fundraising, private equity and relationships with limited partners, giving her a background closely aligned with Verdane’s current priorities.
Her move to Verdane therefore represents more than a conventional senior hire. It places an experienced fundraising professional at the centre of the firm’s European capital-raising strategy at a time when competition for institutional capital remains intense.
Edda IV Fundraising Adds Importance to Appointment
The timing of the appointment is one of the most notable aspects of the move.
Verdane is currently raising Edda IV, which focuses on European lower mid-market buyouts. Investment materials from Connecticut’s Investment Advisory Council describe the strategy as targeting Northern Europe, with an emphasis on the Nordics, DACH region and the UK. The documents put Verdane’s overall assets under management at approximately €10.7 billion, with around €1.9 billion attributed to the Edda strategy.
The firm was also presented as having more than 180 employees, including more than 80 investment professionals, with its headquarters in Oslo and additional offices across Northern Europe and London.
For a fund manager pursuing a multibillion-euro fundraising target, investor relations plays a critical role. Beyond communicating fund performance, the function is responsible for maintaining long-term relationships with limited partners, communicating investment strategy and helping prospective investors understand a manager’s positioning and track record.
Flynn’s European remit is therefore expected to support Verdane as it deepens its engagement with the region’s institutional investor community.
A Strategic Move for Verdane
The creation of a dedicated European head of investor relations position signals the growing importance Verdane places on its relationships with investors across the continent.
Verdane has built its investment strategy around backing technology-enabled and sustainable businesses in Europe, with a focus on long-term structural trends such as digitalisation and decarbonisation. In recent discussions about the European private equity market, the firm’s investment team has highlighted opportunities arising from these trends while stressing the importance of resilience and sustainable value creation.
A stronger investor relations structure can help translate that investment proposition into a clearer and more consistent dialogue with limited partners.
It also comes as private equity firms face a more demanding fundraising environment. Investors are increasingly scrutinising fund strategies, portfolio construction, value creation plans, distributions and exit prospects before committing additional capital. In this environment, experienced investor relations leadership can become an important differentiator.
Strengthening Long-Term Investor Partnerships
Verdane said Flynn’s experience would help strengthen its existing investor partnerships while supporting the firm’s efforts to establish new relationships.
That focus reflects the evolving nature of investor relations within private equity. The role has moved well beyond traditional fundraising communications. Today’s IR teams increasingly act as a bridge between investment firms and their limited partners, providing transparency around portfolio developments, market conditions, performance and future investment opportunities.
For Verdane, this will be particularly relevant as it builds momentum around Edda IV.
The firm’s existing Edda platform has already established a sizeable presence in the European lower mid-market. The new fund’s €1.6 billion target and €1.8 billion hard cap would give Verdane substantial additional capital to deploy into its investment strategy if fundraising reaches the upper end of the range.
What the Appointment Means for Verdane’s Next Chapter
The appointment of Marina Jovanovic Flynn comes at a pivotal stage for Verdane. With Edda IV fundraising underway, the firm is looking to combine its established European investment platform with deeper and more strategic engagement with investors.
Flynn’s previous experience at L Catterton and Rede Partners gives her exposure to both the fund-manager and fundraising-advisory sides of the private markets ecosystem. That combination could prove valuable as Verdane navigates an increasingly competitive European fundraising landscape.
Ultimately, the creation of the new role underlines a straightforward message: Verdane is investing not only in its next fund, but also in the investor relationships that will help support its longer-term growth.
With Edda IV targeting up to €1.8 billion, Flynn’s appointment places investor relations firmly at the centre of Verdane’s next phase of expansion across Europe.
