The long-term partnership will bring deeper Azure integration, faster AI-powered workflows, and enhanced performance for enterprises adopting data-driven decision-making.

Databricks and Microsoft are strengthening one of the technology industry’s most influential collaborations by extending their strategic partnership into the 2030s. The renewed alliance reflects the growing demand for enterprise AI and underscores both companies’ commitment to helping organizations unlock greater value from data, analytics, and artificial intelligence.

The expanded partnership will see Databricks deepen its investment in Microsoft’s Azure cloud ecosystem, while Microsoft integrates Databricks’ advanced AI capabilities across its enterprise product portfolio, making AI-powered decision-making more accessible for businesses worldwide.

A Decade of Collaboration Enters a New Phase

After nearly ten years of working together, Databricks and Microsoft are entering the next chapter of their relationship with a stronger focus on enterprise AI transformation.

As part of the renewed agreement, Databricks will run more of its own core business operations and analytics on Azure Databricks. The company also plans to expand its internal lakehouse architecture using Microsoft’s cloud platform, reinforcing Azure as the foundation for its business and data infrastructure.

The move reflects growing confidence in Azure’s ability to support increasingly complex AI workloads while enabling organizations to unify data, analytics, and governance within a single platform.

Azure Cobalt 200 to Deliver Greater Performance

Another significant aspect of the partnership is Databricks’ adoption of Microsoft’s latest Arm-based cloud infrastructure.

The company will transition from Azure Cobalt 100 to the newer Azure Cobalt 200 processors, which Microsoft says deliver up to 50% better performance while offering memory encryption by default. The upgraded infrastructure is designed to improve efficiency, scalability, and security for demanding enterprise AI applications.

The enhancement is expected to support larger AI models and increasingly sophisticated analytics workloads while helping organizations optimize performance and operational costs.

AI Tools to Become More Deeply Embedded Across Microsoft

Microsoft will continue integrating Databricks’ Data and AI Platform across its expanding ecosystem of enterprise applications.

Capabilities such as Genie, Databricks’ AI co-worker, will become more deeply embedded into products including Microsoft 365, Teams, Copilot, Power BI, Power Platform, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Foundry.

The tighter integration is intended to help businesses access AI-powered insights directly within the tools employees use every day, reducing friction between data analysis and business decision-making.

By combining enterprise data with AI assistants, organizations can automate workflows, improve productivity, and enable employees to make faster, more informed decisions.

Helping Businesses Build AI on Trusted Data

Ali Ghodsi, Co-founder and CEO of Databricks, said the partnership has reached its strongest point after years of collaboration.

He noted that for nearly a decade, both companies have helped enterprises innovate through data and artificial intelligence. With technologies such as Genie and Unity AI Gateway now integrated into Microsoft’s ecosystem, customers can unify enterprise data, ground AI models in trusted business knowledge, and manage governance and operational costs as they expand the use of AI agents and large language models.

The focus remains on making enterprise AI more reliable, scalable, and easier to manage.

Connecting Data, AI, and Business Context

Judson Althoff, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Microsoft, emphasized that the partnership is designed to help organizations bring together data, AI, and business context in a way that enables faster decision-making and measurable business outcomes.

He added that Databricks’ expanded use of Azure Databricks and Azure Cobalt infrastructure demonstrates confidence in Microsoft’s cloud platform and will provide customers with greater scalability, efficiency, and performance for AI-intensive workloads.

The collaboration also reinforces Microsoft’s strategy of making AI capabilities available across its commercial ecosystem while maintaining enterprise-grade security and governance.

Thousands of Enterprises Already Rely on the Platform

The partnership is already supporting a wide range of global organizations across industries.

Companies including Banco Bradesco, the Cincinnati Reds, Electrolux, SMBC, and Unilever currently run workloads on Azure Databricks, using the platform to manage data, analytics, and AI-driven operations.

Databricks also reports that its broader Data and AI Platform is used by more than 20,000 organizations worldwide. Customers include major enterprises such as AT&T, Bayer, BMW Group, HSBC, and T-Mobile, which leverage technologies including Genie, Lakebase, Agent Bricks, Lakeflow, Lakehouse, and Unity Catalog to power data-driven innovation.

A Strong Signal for the Future of Enterprise AI

The extended partnership highlights how enterprise AI is moving beyond experimentation toward large-scale implementation. Rather than treating AI as a standalone capability, both companies are focusing on integrating intelligence directly into business applications while ensuring organizations can securely manage and govern their data.

As enterprises continue investing in AI-driven transformation, the deeper collaboration between Databricks and Microsoft positions both companies to play a central role in shaping the next generation of cloud, analytics, and intelligent business operations throughout the coming decade.
