From the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched the second iteration of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-D2) on Friday.
The SSLV-D2 launched at 9:18 a.m. from the Satish Dhawan Space Center’s first launch pad to place three satellites into a 450 km circular orbit during its 15-minute flight.
At 9:18 a.m., the rocket lifted off from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Center with three satellites, one of which was created by 750 female students throughout India. During the rocket’s 15-minute journey, the satellites were placed into a 450 km circular orbit.
According to ISRO, the new rocket is carrying three satellites, including EOS-07 from ISRO, Janus-1 from US company Antaris, and AzaadiSAT-2 from Chennai-based Space Kidz.
The three satellites that were launched into orbit includes:
- The ISRO EOS-07.
- The Janus-1 spacecraft from the US company Antaris.
- The AzaadiSAT-2 satellite from Chennai-based SpaceKidz.
“The mission has been successfully completed. EOS-07, Janus-1, and AzaadiSAT-2 were all delivered into their intended orbits by SSLV-D2, “The space agency tweeted about the successful launch from its Twitter account.
It was the space agency’s second test flight of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle. The SSLV’s initial test flight, which took place on August 9, was partially unsuccessful since the rocket needed to place its satellite payload in the desired orbit.
SSLV offers “launch-on-demand” services for satellites weighing up to 500 kg into low Earth orbit. It provides quick turnaround times, versatility in accommodating several satellites, and affordable access to space.
