AI Startup Vapi Surges to $500M Valuation After Outshining 40 Rivals in Amazon Ring Deal

Vapi

In a defining moment for the rapidly expanding AI voice industry, Vapi has secured a substantial $50 million Series B funding round, significantly increasing the startup’s valuation to nearly $500 million. The milestone comes after the company won a high-stakes competition against more than 40 AI voice vendors to power customer support operations for Amazon Ring.

The deal marks a major validation for Vapi’s technology and highlights how enterprises are increasingly turning to conversational AI systems to manage customer interactions at scale.

How Vapi Won Amazon Ring

During the 2025 holiday shopping season, Amazon Ring experienced a sharp increase in customer-support traffic. The company explored several options — including expanding traditional call centers, relying on conventional automated phone systems, or deploying AI-powered voice agents capable of handling conversations naturally and efficiently.

After evaluating over 40 competing AI voice startups, Ring selected Vapi to manage its inbound customer calls. Today, the company reportedly routes 100% of its inbound phone traffic through Vapi’s platform.

According to Vapi CEO Jordan Dearsley, Ring was drawn to the startup’s ability to provide engineers with precise control over AI agent behavior during live customer interactions. That flexibility allowed Ring’s teams to refine customer experiences without heavily depending on technical engineering resources.

Jason Mitura, Vice President of Software Development at Amazon Ring, revealed that customer satisfaction scores improved after implementing Vapi’s AI voice platform. He emphasized that while many AI tools promise transformation, Vapi successfully delivered measurable results.

From AI Therapy Project to Enterprise Powerhouse

Vapi’s story began in 2023 when co-founder Jordan Dearsley developed an AI therapist designed to hold conversations during his daily walks. Alongside his University of Waterloo classmate Nikhil Gupta, the duo soon discovered that businesses were more interested in the low-latency voice infrastructure powering the product than the therapy application itself.

That realization led them to pivot and publicly launch Vapi in 2024.

Since then, the company has rapidly emerged as one of the most talked-about players in the AI voice infrastructure space. Its platform enables businesses to build and manage AI voice agents for customer support, appointment scheduling, outbound sales, and lead qualification.

Handling Over 1 Billion Calls

Vapi says its platform has now processed more than 1 billion calls, with enterprise adoption accelerating at a remarkable pace. The startup currently manages between 1 million and 5 million calls daily, driven largely by major enterprise clients.

Beyond Amazon Ring, Vapi’s customer roster includes companies such as Intuit, Kavak, Instawork, New York Life, Cherry, and UnityAI.

The company also claims that more than 1 million developers have used its self-serve platform, giving Vapi a significant advantage in scalability before signing large enterprise contracts.

Investors Double Down on AI Voice Technology

The funding round was led by Peak XV Partners, with participation from major investors including M12 (Microsoft’s Venture Fund), Kleiner Perkins, and Bessemer Venture Partners.

With this latest investment, Vapi’s total funding has now reached $72 million. Sources familiar with the company’s financials indicate that the startup is already operating at a strong eight-figure annual recurring revenue run rate.

The fresh capital will be used to expand Vapi’s engineering capabilities, infrastructure, and go-to-market operations as demand for enterprise AI voice systems continues to surge globally.

The AI Voice Race Intensifies

Vapi is part of a broader wave of AI voice startups reshaping customer communication. Competitors in the space include ElevenLabs, PolyAI, Decagon, Sierra, Retell AI, and Bland AI.

However, Vapi believes its competitive edge lies in focusing on the infrastructure layer rather than simply offering ready-made AI applications. The startup is positioning itself as the backbone that helps enterprises manage reliability, compliance, orchestration, and behavioral control for AI voice systems.

As businesses increasingly adopt AI-driven customer experiences, Vapi’s rapid rise signals a larger shift in how enterprises may handle communication in the years ahead.

“The golden problem is taking this indeterminate beast that is a model and taming it,” Dearsley said. “If you can do that, then you can provide value to the world.”
